A Newborn Care Specialist (NCS), also informally known as a baby nurse (a term that is mostly used with medically trained nurses), is a child care professional with combined skills and education that provides expert care for infants as well as education for their parents.
A NCS can offer newborn care support; 24 hours, daytime (8 - 10 hours), and overnight (10 - 12 hours). We may also offer consultations based off the needs of individual families. A NCS will work with the goal of establishing routines that work for your baby and your family, while also helping your baby learn to sleep through the night. A Newborn Care Specialist provides you with information on the most effective and safe techniques to care for your baby, that follow the latest recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Center for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and many other professional health and family organizations.
A Newborn Care Specialist is trained to handle common issues that newborns may experience such as colic, reflux/GERD, preemie care and developing a healthy sleep schedule/pattern. We also support mothers with postpartum recovery, breastfeeding and assistance with all baby related household tasks such as baby laundry, washing and sterilizing of bottles and pump parts, and ensuring the changing stations are well stocked. For some families, a NCS may also assist in recommending baby gear, and give advice on setting up your nursery that suits the needs of your family. We give a general peace of mind knowing that your little heartbeat is well taken care of, while you get a good night's sleep.
We are here for your holistic care, and aim to accommodate your needs!
